Hmmm medicating with food. I like it Marijke. Chocolate always works for me ;-)

Just kidding - I don't have an opinion on this one. I tried it and couldn't get it out the bottle so gave up. Apparently I needed a teat with a bigger hole.

Another of this very interesting topics, lets add it since we have a great debate going now.

What is your (your as in anyone who wants to answer) opinion about giving cereal in the night time bottle to get them to 1) drop a feed and 2) sleep better? Isn't that pretty much the same?

As a child I was never allowed in my parents bed - not even when sick or scared. I had terrible nightmares - that I can actually still remember - and my mother locked her bedroom door so I couldn't get to her. I fell asleep on the floor outside the door. Today I am a 27 year old women who is TERRIFED of the dark! I am convinced it was because my mother never took the time to comfort me when I was a child.

My LO is 4, she doesn't sleep through the night and I don't care. Many adults don't sleep through the night, so why should she. I let her sleep in my bed if she wants to, we sleep its fine. I doubt she'll be sleeping in my bed in highschool.

I could not stand the thought of letting her cry, or druggin her. I hate it when I hear of women who began giving their LO panado from day 1 to get them sleeping through by 6 weeks.

True i wish some nights she would sleep through, but in the long run its not effecting her or us, she is happy and confident and we go out often and she is perfectly fine sleeping at other peoples houses and been babysat.

But you know each to their own.

my parents would allow us a tiny glass of sherry at age 12 with sunday dinner.

They probably wanted nookie. ;)

I have friends who do it too and I don't agree with it.

I would not call using a bit of Calpol if your child is in pain and miserable as over medicating. A line has to be drawn on what is over medicationg. Someone mentioned that they had a friend whom worked in Chemist and a lady would come in to buy 3 bottles of Stopyn per month for her 3 kids. That is over-medicating and wrong but if a child is ill then Stopyn is fine at the right dose.

Lets face it there is a lot wrong with not medicating a sick child and letting her be in pain and cry the night away. I see some Moms disagree with sleep training as they THINK you leave them to cry and this is cruel. It is far more cruel to leave a child miserable and in pain. Just my opinion.

I agree with the red. Maybe because I never sleep trained any of my kids - hell, Micayla fell asleep in our bed every night and was then moved to her own bed, but when Connor came along I never even had to rock him to sleep. Nor with any of my kids after Connor. I admit tehse days it is so nice just to put jaqi in bed, after her last breastfeed of the day and let her go to sleep on her own without the need to be rocked or whatever.

We do spend time cuddling with the kids, or hugging them or just giving them attention when it is awake time - so I do not feel I am missing out on an oppertunity to bond with any of them, by not rocking them or swishing them or assisting them falling asleep. Although I do not see anything wrong if someone would want to do so.

Okay, I'm going to sound totally doff but bear with me....

I know many people who offer their children sips of wine or beer for the boys. We have family pictures of such events that were used against my sister and father in a political smear campaign. I don't know how to feel about it really. My FIL wanted to give my LG a sip of wine this weekend and I pulled her away.

But I guess it will fall in the same category of giving your baby a puff on your siggy....
