Help- I'm officially a cloth nappy user!!

2km, have you used training pants? I am checking them out on your site, trying to fit it into the budget this month...

It seems that the MN and BM has a waterproof layer on the outside, while the earthbabies don't. Which one would you recommend? And how many do you think I should get? At this stage I am looking for something that he can pull down to go to the potty, but that can hold a pee like a nappy without getting the clothes wet, when he has an accident. I will even add an additional soaker pad if I have to, but feel that its importand for the "nappy" to be waterproof on the outside.

At the moment I am getting Stefan to poo in the potty about 2 days out of 5 in the week (mornings) but the main problem is the pee cause he won't go on the potty yet. He does tell me when he is pee-ing, but gets "stage fright" when I put the potty in front of him. He is also only 21 months, so I don't want to push it yet, I'm just sick of buying disposables as they are turning out to be much much much more expensive than cloth.

And I had a nice set of 6 Stegi covers die on me, they are all ripped and i followed every rule in the book when it came to washing etc. I guess they are just not good quality. I have one BM cover which gets used daily but at this stage the pees are so big that the cover is soaked (but still doesn't leak!) when he's done and can't be reused.

Sarah, as long as you are Breastfeeding you will be having this problem. Liners are your best bet. I have found the Handshower in the bath over the Toilet or bucket is the best way to rinse the nappies. Some overseas companies have fantastic Nappy Sprayers that you attach to your taps which look really great but you can't buy them here.

We still have very runny poo's this side so I have to rinse the nappies even if I use a liner. Can't wait till everything is a bit 'firmer' which will make disposing of everything a bit easier

Good for you Sarah that you are taking the nappies along and keeping up with it. I have a maid who has taken to handwashing the dirty nappies every day so I don't mind, I never have a full nappy bucket anymore. i still send all the nappies in a Pepstores blanket bag to school and they send the dirty ones in a big scented plastic bag home at the end of the day for cleaning. It's a totally waterless system. They throw off the solids and flush and I treat the stains later and it's working well for us.

Yah, I also bought the probac and used it on a shirt of mine and it was a grease stain and it came out no problem. I am not clued up with spores and things so it's good you tell me because we are bigtime allergy sufferers. I'll keep an eye on it. I don't wash in a hot wash.

I still use paper liners but am finding with the Econobum Prefolds I am using that they really arn't necessary anymore. I am truly loving this nappy and am so sorry I didn't know about it earlier. Getting 12 more this week, so i better get pregnant soon becasue my LB is two now and I don't know how much more use he will get out of them although I don't plan on potty training before the winter is over. I am still using the washball with the Bicarb and Vinegar and the Tea tree oil, I should give the lavender oil a go, perhaps it will make things smell nicer.

I'm here, just working full-time (7-5:30!!) but I take madam with me and all her cloth nappies. Still going well. I use a washball with her nappies (the cheap one and it does seem to work for now) and vinegar and sometimes tea-tree oil. I also spray the dirty ones with Super 10 when I put them in my nappy bucket. At work, I rinse dirty nappies and I keep them all in a packet till I get home then I rinse, spray if I have to and only wash on Friday night or Saturday morning.

I do still use liners (paper ones usually), but I wash them and re-use if I can and once they're looking tatty I compost them

Hi there, sorry I have been MIA... I am here and do read the posts but hardly ever get time to reply.

2km, I got that ProBac stain remover yesterday, cant wait to try it out. I see it has micro spores in, that basically degrades the stains. So it must be made of a fungus, so be carefull with hot washes as hot water will kill the microbes then they can't work...
I am just a bit worried about the spores and allergies / ashtma, but we will see if it affects the kids.

I don't use liners anymore, I just put the nappy on as is. Much less fuss and not really much diference to my nappies...

For washing, I use washball, teatree oil, and rinse with some lavender oil for a nice smell. Works for me... O and I tumble dry my nappies (not covers) so they come out nice and soft.
