Hi ladies.

Thanks for link Marijke. i will definitely read it tmrw. I love love VBAC birthstories! I had read hundreds already & cant get enough!

So, I have my 30 week appointment with my new backup gynae on Monday. Dr Maasdorp. We need to discuss removing my Shirdkar suture (a stitch which is currently holding my cervix closed cos I had a threatening miscarriage with my 1st baby. It was done at 15 weeks) My midwife has suggested he take it out at 37 weeks so that if I go into labour after the removal, we will be in safe territory.

I will be seeing him for the 1st time so quite nervous. Also, at my 4D scan last saturday, my placenta looks like such a funny shape. it is protruding into the photo's and it actually made it quite difficult to get a good pic of the baby. I hope that won't be a negative thing for the vbac *crossing fingers*

Other than that, all is well. Just feeling bigger by the day! not sure of baby's weight because I havent been to see a gynae since like 20 weeks. Guess i will find out on Monday.

What is everyone doing to prepare for the vbacs? Mentally, physically? emotionally?

Reese, I would really suggest you give Dr Du Basson a call at Panorama. He allowed my doula in, and did not go against any of my wishes. Allowed me to be in active labour much longer than other drs. Allowed Candles and sented oils etc.

He may be able to put you in contact with a midwife who works at the hosiptal. They were the ones to basicall assist me in my labour, and are the most wonderful staff ever!

Hi all

I saw my gynea yesterday at Durbanville MC and guess what, he said he would give me a trial labour. I do feel that I should still go to VP, that a midwife will be much more of assistance/give me a better chance, what do you think. I also told my husband last night how i felt and he said he would support me whichever option i chose. I think the next step would be to meet a midwife from birth options, go for hypno birthing and then hope for the best. I struggled with the thought that I wouldnt be allowed pain medication if I had to go to VP/use a midwife but have been informed that should I want a epidural, I can have one but its best to go without. My friends seems to think I am crazy, they cant understand why I have such an urge to give normal birth. For the first time, I am excited, I should have done my homework much sooner. I know things are out of my control but I am giving it my best shot. After meeting the midwife, I do want to meet either Dr Dumbrill or Searle to see who I would want to use as my back up gynea. The gynea's in the southern suburbs seem to be more expensive? I have heard that there is a midwife in Paarl as well, Natasha Laubsher, anyone heard about her?

Hey Reese, I haven't yet been to either, but I have a friend who's going to Dr Dumbrill and Ciska's colleague Angela. I asked her for feedback and she said that neither of them guarantees anything, they do stipulate the dangers involved and for her the doctor gave a 60 - 70% chance on success. They also discuss what you have to/need to do to increase your chances of having a successful vbac.

From another friend I gathered that Dr Dumbrill is willing to go for a trial of labour, but I will guarantee you, no doctor will give you the same amount of chance they might have given you had it been your first.

I'm being very head in the sand about this for the moment ;)
