Babyshoes, things have been a bit hectic here.

We'll hear today if we've sold the house - holding thumbs this bond doesn't fall through. If all goes well, next week the house hunting will begin.

And it looks like I may have almost finished my dissertation. Dropped it off for editing yesterday. It's not quite where it should be, but at this point, submission is the mission. If all goes well I'll make all the changes tomorrow and print out the damn thing (after I buy more paper and figure out why my graphs aren't lining up) and have it bound, and then Friday is D-Day. It's been tight, but with a bit of luck I'll screech in just before deadline. I feel very guilty every time I hit "print" - 110 pages of virgin forest down the drain each pop.

How're all the little ones doing? Took Emily for the 15-month jab on Monday and yesterday she was like a child from the exorcist. I have never seen anything like it. The tantrum went on for about an hour, solid, and ended up with her taking things off her book case and throwing them across the room (I'd put her in the room because she was being uncontrollable). Then she almost stopped breathing. The nanny eventually managed to calm her down. And she went down for her afternoon nap at 4 and slept through till midnight, had a bottle and a nappy change, and woke up at normal time of 6.30. My cousin calls that injection the jab that keeps on giving. She said her son was a devil child for a week, after which he had mumps symptoms, after which he had measles symptoms. Fun times ahead. Fortunately I have two very nice bottles of wine awaiting - treated myself but can only open them once I've submitted the dissertation. Yes, some of us have to resort to bribing ourselves to get anything done.

Babyshoes, nice on the Sars money. My tax lady says I should get back R400. Which won't quite buy a car seat, but it's better than nothing. If you have the car seat, you obviously have a car? It's going to be so nice to be independent. That first drive I took after I got my test, it felt like my little jalopy had wings.

Can't you get the referral letter without making an appointment? Sounds like a bit of a money-making racket you have there.

Im going to be truely honest - today's visit to Luke's eye specialist just upset me and put me in a bad mood!

So I took Luke to see Dr Perrott - he did the near and far sighted tests... All seems ok, he did not talk much

Was PISSED OFF at him cos he said that when Luke sees Jane she can give me a referral letter - so now Luke has to see her in September just so that I can get a referral letter - I mean WTF???? And then Dr Perrott wants to see Luke again in December.

The patching is going well - except for the rash Luke gets.

Is anyone going to the Baby Indaba? Im going with a friend - have not been to one yet... So it will be quite interesting

I got some money back from SARS and spoilt Luke and bought him a Ferrari car seat... A friend of mine has one and could not resist. Im also going to start with driving lessons so that I can be more "independent" (feeling very embarrassed to have to say that Im almost 31 and dont drive myself around).

Ah Babyshoes, hope you had a better night with Luke. Every now and again Emily delivers one of those nights, just to let us know who's really in charge.

You are doing such a good job with Luke. The patch is hard but just know that it will all be over soon, and you are doing the best you can! The Red Cross is an amazing hospital - and if you can get the same doc to do the op, that's even better. And as for them to say his eye will "never be 100% straight after the op" - they don't know that for sure hey? Keep us updated, and stay strong! Luke is so lucky to have such a dedicated and loving mother.

WOW for the online shopping! Sound like fun!!

Oh what a night I had last night - Luke did not sleep well at all - was in my bed and taking over the bed the whole night... I am soooo tired this morning!

I took Luke to see the eye specialist yesterday and he goes back for more tests on Monday morning (to determine if he is near or far sighted - and I need to put drops in again (this time for 3 days twice a day before the appointment)).

He saw his Dr's partner yesterday who told me that she wants Luke to have the operation before he turns 2. She also told me that there is not much we can do at this point except patch and she can "educate" me as to what to do and look out for...

Luke is now on 3 days patching on right eye only, 30 minutes off and then putting the patch back on... In the 30 minutes that are off I need to play and interact face to face with him to see what both his eyes are doing (keep notes and give it to her). He also needs to sleep with the patch on. I know it is all for the best but it hurts me to see him like this.

Hopefully on Monday the Dr will give me a referral letter to the Red Cross Children's Hospital so that we can arrange to see Dr Tilly so that we can get a date that the operation will take place. Dr Tilly also operates at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, but I am not on medical aid and really cant afford Vincent Pallotti - But I am paying privately for all his Dr's consultations with Dr Perrott who has a practice at Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

I was also told that Luke's eye will never be 100% straight after the operation and that we will continue to patch to improve his eye sight.

I must admit that yesterdays consultation was very informative and I have a better understanding of everything...

Anyways, once again - let me get working!

Oh, Jacadebra, sorry - rushing through post and didn't answer your question. We were looking at Blairgowrie but now I've seen a house in Rooseveld Park/Linden that I'm crazy about. Only problem is that it only has three bedrooms (we need four, or three bedrooms and a study). But it's beautiful - oregon floors, pressed ceilings, large stand. But we'll start looking properly once (if) an offer finally goes through. Banks seem to be making it difficult for people. Your place sold pretty quickly! Where are you guys looking?
