Generally I thought the thread (specifically the months threads) was a support group for the people who actually chat in it. So if there isn't any English moms chatting on it, it seems silly to do it in English, since most people can express themselves much better in their home language. And these threads (the mommis by months) are full of emotions.... I think if any english people actively contributed it would be accommodated, but since none has to date, it hasn't been needed.

I can totally understand your frustrations. Although I am afrikaans speaking myself and my english is quite embarrassing at times, I prefer to chat in English as I believe this forum is here to help all South African moms not just certain groups. In my opinion when posts are in Afrikaans a big group of South African moms are automatically excluded and sadly miss out on a lot of the valuable information being shared here.

I would have to agree with IreneL,

I am also part of other groups on other forums, there we speak English even though majority are Afrikaans so as not to exclude the English participants. But if all participants are Afrikaans it would seem rather silly to communicate in English.

When Ilse started this group a few months ago, it was only Afrikaans people that happened to participate in the chats so I think it was just a natural development that we all chatting to each other in Afrikaans, as all of us that chatted regularly are Afrikaans. If someone who can speak Eng but not Afr came along and wanted to join in the chats, none of us would have had a problem with that. 've noticed before that the January and April groups also speak to each other mostly in English, but some participants speak in Afrikaans if they are responding to an Afrikaans person when the specific chat only concerns the two of them.

Basically what I am saying as that we did not intentionally exclude anybody. I'm sure nobody here would mind chatting to you / answering your questions in English
