Hi Ladies,
Compliments of the Season to you all!
We had a difficult week. Dehan got a throat infection last weekend, first he rejected his bottle at the evening feed on Friday. Next day he had a fever on and off and was quite fussy, saw a GP the following morning (Sunday) and got some meds. By Monday afternoon he still hadn't fed properly since Friday, and crying was sooo bad. Went back to the GP but was referred to a specialist paediatrician immediately. Long story short, throat infection initially made ulcers, which later burst and bled. And he then contracted tonsillitis at the same time. He was admitted to the hospital because he couldn't feed at all and started showing signs of dehydration. We had to stay for 3 days (2 nights) and it was a pretty hair-raising time for me. He was on a drip for feeding, but he was still hungry and in pain at the same time. Because he's so small they could only give Panado for the pain, so you can just imagine how he cried
Anyway, we survived that ordeal, been home for 3 days now and he's improving fast. He's able to feed again, and sleeping through as usual, but can have the odd crying spell during the day. He's generally a bit unsettled in the day and doesn't take naps for longer than 30 minutes. Still recovering, I guess.
I stayed with him in the hospital, luckily the paediatric ward was dead quiet. We were alone in a 6-bed ward with lots of space and privacy. I was allowed to stay with him the whole time, but had to sleep in a lazy boy chair. Pretty uncomfortable, but there's no way I would've left my baby alone. Of course, that meant that I unexpectedly had to leave my daughter in my mom's care in the day. My husband doesn't have leave, but he did look after her at night. Still, she was freaked out by the whole hospital situation and it was hell to (once again) have to deal with her crying when she said goodbye.
But we made it home for Christmas! We had a really special day with the family, exactly the way I hoped it would be. The kids were spoiled rotten, we ate a lot of yummy food, for once we took enough photos and celebrated properly.
Now that Christmas is over the countdown to the end of my maternity leave has begun. Both kids are going to the same nursery school (Dehan will be in the baby section), starting on 11 Jan. That means 2 more weeks at home. I'm still on leave that week to help them settle, and they'll only go to school half day. But come the 18th I'm back at work and they will stay at school full day until I fetch them at 4pm. And it'll be a whole year before we take a holiday again, apart from the odd day here and there.
I've racked my brain to try and think of something to do from home, but I can't think of anything that will earn enough to replace my salary. I also have a contract that says I can't resign within the first 6 months of returning, so there's no alternative for me at this point.
TCS, did you resign from your job when you left? Or are you going back but resigning immediately?
