Hi Berry

I use the same breast pump.i Used to pump little milk till I started increasing the sucking power(the plus button) I pump in the morning after her morning feed.

Me and baby are back in Pta from Limpopo and we doing great. Daddy is not loving the fact that the baby is not comfortable with him. Lol he will be strong. I just wish she would sleep better during the day and can't wait for her to start sleeping throughout the night.

Hi Ladies,

I am not getting any notice of updates either!!

Vendah - Wow I am so jealous that you are able to pump so much milk. What pump are you using? I have the Lansinoh double electric which is supposed to be great, but I can't seem to pump more then 30ml / 40ml or 60ml if I am very lucky. Don't know what I am doing wrong. So I have just stopped pumping for now. Also how often do you breastfeed your baby and for how long at a time?

TCS84 - How is your son doing today? If he is sick in any way he will have a fever of above 38 degrees. Otherwise I don't know why he would refuse to sleep and feed? Apparently they are restless during growth spurts although I haven't experienced that as yet.

My little girl is such an angel! She sleeps from around 8.30pm to 4, 5 or 6am and has a feed then sleeps further. I am not doing anything special. She just started this wonderful routine by herself. This is totally opposite to my son who used to feed every 3 hours day and night for months - but then he had reflux which I think played a role. During the day she has long sleeps of between 2 and 4 hours. She mostly sleeps in her swing.

I am now breastfeeding without a shield - yay for me! My nipples seems to have got tough now. I wish I could exclusively breastfeed, but my baby drinks for about 5mins on a breast and then she just keeps unlatching herself. I move her to the other breast and after 4 or 5 mins she does the same. Then she will cry until I give her a formula bottle. She will drink anything from 60mls to 120ml of formula. Mostly only 60mls. If I squeeze my boob a lot of milk comes out, so it's not that there isn't any milk left. When she wakes in the morning she will only breastfeed and then dose off whilst feeding and sometimes when I am in town she will only breastfeed and then seem satisfied. I really don't know what I can do to feed longer. All I can think is that after 5mins the flow of milk is too slow for her.

Otherwise my little girl is doing great. She has started to giggle and reach for objects and she grabs them with her hand and then holds on. It's amazing how quickly they develop. Too cute! Her brother loves her too bits. I feel so lucky to have these two in my life.

Ladies my son is refusing to sleep during the day and night. He plays and cries. That's all he does. He is not drinking enough milk. Refusing the breast as well. I don't know what to do ... Any help? Not sure why he doesn't want the breast... I'm so frustrated at the moment ..

@Vendah, wow 360ml! That's amazing! Dehan drank a lot in the early weeks, he wanted to feed every 60 - 90min and I never had anything left to express. By the evening he was generally fussy and my boobs felt completely empty, so I started giving him a top-up at night when he was about 6 weeks. That worked ok, but his feeding requirements became more as he gained weight, and I started giving him a 2nd formula bottle in the morning too (was only 60ml at the time). He was ok on the breast with one formula bottle, but the moment I gave him 2 formula bottles a day he wasn't interested in breastfeeding anymore. I was very sad about it, I enjoyed the bonding. But my 1st was on a bottle within the 1st week and I bonded well with her, so I just decided to make it special for both of us even though I was feeding him from a bottle and not breast.

Anyway, long story short, he's doing great and it all worked out ok for me. I think I would've had to introduce formula around now, maternity leave is now running out so fast and will be back at work in 6 weeks (can't express at work).

As much as I want to take credit for being freaking awesome (haha!), I can't take the credit for the baby sleeping so well. In the end, they all do what they want to do. I'm very good at setting a routine, but he's honestly such a sweet and content baby and we know exactly how lucky we are!

TCS, I'd suggest that you start your night time routine earlier. The misconception is that if a baby goes to bed earlier he will wake earlier, but this isn't the case 99% of the time. Your little man is going to wake at 2:30, whether he goes to bed at 10pm or 8pm. Try and move your routine forward by 30 minutes, and next week another 30 minutes. Ideally they should be in bed between 7 and 8 pm, he's old enough now to start introducing a routine that will be more sustainable in the long run. Also, don't let him nap later than 6pm!

@vendah that's some serious milk quantity!!! Wow.. Awesome stuff! I got about 180ml in 1 express session. That's enough for 1 feed...

Hi Ladies,
Wow DieSwartKat that's amazing!! Well done ...

My LB goes to bed around 9:30. He is used to an 10:30 sleep tho and I'm trying to bring it earlier. He wakes around 2:30 for a feed then again at about 5:30. We lie in bed and sleep and feed and play till about 9am (LOL) then it's bath time and he sleeps from about 10 or 10:30 for 3 to 4 hours then up for about 45mins to an hour and back to sleep for 3 hours. Then in the afternoons he naps for about 45 mins a time till about 8pm which is when I start bed time routine. Bath and then bottle feed at 9 or 9:30...
I am both formula and breastfeeding. The formula keeps him full for a good 3 hours. So I give him that at night and sometimes during the day especially when I take him out and don't have expressed milk. I try to keep his breastmilk intake more than the formula for now... His weight gain has increased since I've started formula. He gained 1.5kg in a month and is not 5.5kg. Still below the median but not underweight and the Doc was happy with that... I wish he would sleep thro the night.. The 2:30 feed isn't bad because he drinks and goes back to bed quickly.. I also put him down after feeding and burping him and he falls asleep on his own but some days he does like to be carried... He doesn't trouble me much at all. For as long as he is full and sleeps well he is a very happy smiley baby.
He turned 3 months yesterday aswell and he had his second set of vaccinations. His Thighs were sore. No major side effects. He was just not his smiley self after ... No fever etc.

He still sleeps in his cot in our room. I want to start putting him in his own room but that 2:30am feed is a drag to walk down the passage and feed him. I hope he starts sleeping thro the night soon!!!

I wonder why there are no notifications anymore : it's quite annoying!!

Mine only breastfeeds bt I have enough milk, I can even store 360Ml of milk a day. . During the day she only wants to sleep in my arms sometimes I am lucky and she doesn't wake up when I put her down. Bt at night she is a different person she sleeps in her cot wakes up once and feeds with eyes closed and goes straight back to bed.
