file Burning the midnight oil together

I typed a post at 7 this morning and then my phone battery decided to die on me :( So now I play catch up.

Boy am I in the worst mood. K hasnt thrown up once today, until her 7pm feed. We thought she was all burped and everything, it was 8:30 and we tried giving one of her meds. She landed up throwing up what seemed like an entire feed. Spent the last 2 hours trying to feed her what little milk I had. Eventually defrosted some expressed milk but she refuses the bottle and then she decided after a good 10 minutes of crying and lots of screaming between DH and I that she wasnt hungry after all. Now she's been awake since and just doesnt fall asleep so I cant go take a nap. So I dont know when her next feed is meant to be. And I have to nap after her 10pm feed or I'm wasted the next day.

Joli tx for the support. I agree with you there!

Miggie thats great. Hope you get some more good sleep tonight. How old is your LO btw? What's her name? Where are you from?

Nikki shame on the choking! What bottles do you use? The Nuk I have the milk doesnt come out fast at all and she doesnt suck it properly so doesnt get any milk out. Wasted a good 60ml expressed milk tonight.
Youre lucky your DH would get up early on a Sunday to make coffee. You also get up early? I must say, we stay in bed till at least 9am in the mornings, although she seldom lets me sleep after her 6am feed cos she gets very windy then and is very niggly.

Vash I didnt see you as Indian with a LB named Liam. I like it though :) I've only ever been to Durban once, and was like 9. I remember the hotel - the Four Seasons - they took my food away cos my knife & fork were together on the plate and I went to the loo. I was very upset. And we went to a water park close to the beach and I couldnt find my dad and got all scared. Ive also never seen such full beaches before. I remember my mom wasnt with cos she had chicken pox - which my brother gave her - and then the following week I had it :)

Nikki with you on the projectile poo & wee. With the girls, I find that although the wee doesnt go airborn, it still goes up, and lands up wetting her clothes. Too many times we've had to change her clothes in the middle of the night cos of weeing episodes. So we keep the dirty nappy there until the very last minute, watch her for weeing and then pull her legs downwards if she does wee. As for poo - well what can you do really?
Apparently the watery poo is a breastfeeding thing lol. K is also on water tablets (until tomorrow yay!) and so they are even runnier!

Shame poor James. Will you take him to the doctor? I also heard about the breastmilk but havent tried it. I feel awful when K has a blocked nose. The saline seems to help but she hates it.
Where do you stay now? I cant imagine driving that distance on my own even now, and I've had my licence for 5 years already! I failed my learners 3 times but thankfully passed my drivers first try phew! What I used to do was once I was going for lessons (started about 2 months before licence date) DH would take me after work each night to practice what I'd learnt and just get used to driving. But I didnt do anything until we started with lessons.

Re la leche, I might join them. I'm with you re the breastfeeding. I wont judge a woman for formula feeding, cos they have their own reasoning. But I can see why some women give up after the first 2 weeks cos of the pain. What they dont realise is that once your nipples are used to it, its not sore anymore provided baby is latching properly. I love how rewarding breastfeeding is for me. Seeing her eat well, and pick up weight every week. Plus no bottles to clean, or formula to prepare, just whip out the boob and feed. I will start expressing once a day in about a months time though so that weekends I can have some rest and maybe use the time to go to gym or just sleep and baby sitting when need be. But I wont make a habit of it daily only when its required.
I used a breastfeeding clinic and had them come to our house once. And whenever I'm not sure, I would (still do) just SMS and she would reply, or phone if needed. I would go weekly for weigh ins and then ask more advice while I was there. It gave me the confidence to know what to do / whether I was doing it okay cos its all so daunting in the beginning. I must say, without her I might have given it all up.

Owais mum welcome and happy chatting. Hopefully you'll have good nights without too much sleep disruptions.

Cell C is stuffing out with their browsing. So I'm using DH phone for chat tonight. Hopefully they fix this soon.

I'm exhausted but dont know when K will want her next feed so dont konw if I should go sleep or what.

@vash, oops don't know who it was then:) I've been using saline for his nose. I don't like iliadin because although effective it can cause rebound congestion. I also try to avoid chemical medicines and products where possible. I guess you could say I'm half a hippy:) ( Not completely because I still believe western medicine is important in the treatment of disease, but I believe it's overused-particularly when it comes to antibiotics)

What else can all you mommies tell us about yourselves?

My babys name is James. He's exclusively breastfed, is 5 months old, and doesn't nap much during the day:(
I'm a physiotherapist in private practice working for myself. Although I see all kinds of patients I have mainly worked in paediatrics, specifically critical care(so icu stuff).
James wasn't planned, but the best gifts are always the unexpected ones:)

Claudia i think you're mistaking me with someone else. I don't recall mentioning laleche in any post but i did post a few questions about breastfeeding. I don't think i would want to formula feed any of my children. Illiadin really helps for a blocked nose but i also heard that if you spray a little breastmilk in the nostril that also helps clear the nose.
You must be a really good driver to drive to jhb by yourself! I'm jealous now.
Welcome Owais mum. Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy and birth. You can chat with us anytime.

Hey ladies. James normally sleeps through, but hes had a bit of a cold the last couple of days and I think the blocked nose is bothering him, last night I was up at 3:30 and actually posted, but then my stupid Iphone kicked me off the net so I lost my post:)

Girls with your driving its just practice practice practice.. Get someone to take you to an empty parking lot at first if you are scared and just practice pulling off etc.. Atleast then you know that you wont crash into anyone:) I got my licence when I was 18. I spent most of my matric year driving everywhere with my mom so that I got lots of practice and then when I turned 18 at varsity, it was just a matter of waiting for the easter hols so that I could come back home and do the test (Lived in Durbs and studied up at Wits). After passing my parents got me a car and I drove on up back to Joburg be myself:) Looking back I think my parents were crazy:), but it def gave me confidence, so I've now driven cars in America, UK, France, Italy, Turkey and Germany:) I'm 28 now:)

@ Vash, I saw on another post that you mentioned laleche? Are you a member? I've just joined and have decided to work towards becoming a leader. I'm getting so disheartened about the number of people that give up breastfeeding because they dont have enough milk - when its juts ther LO's feeding often to establish supply. Want to try help others to breastfeed if I can - especially because so many of the moms that I know whoformula feed, dont realise how easy breastfeeding becomes when you stick with it past the hard beginning bit!

Anyway heres to hoping I get back to sleeping through tonight:)

@ Vash - I'm also Indian ;-) I lived in Shallcross which is right next door to Chatsworth.
My DH usually puts on the lampshade to change her diaper before I feed her and I use a nightlight while I'm feeding.

She sleeps in a moses basket on a stand next to our bed, will move her to her nursery at 3 months.

My DH and I have had many projectile poo and wee aimed straight at us :-)
