Welcome to Moomie and to SA Thamu. That is a lot of stress to be under, I'd be crying too. I actually did cry for 2 days when I just found out I was pregnant and had to choose a gynea - hormones! Glad you got a better doctor and it's great that you could already speak to him. I live in Jo'burg so I also don't have any advice about hospitals or drs.

Solo, I also think it's such a calm beautiful birth - not like the movies at all. I'm also scared about going natural all the way, but will try and if I need drugs, that's fine as well.

I've been preadmitted to Garden City Clinic and have my 4D scan on 1 April. And next week I'm doing a tour of the maternity ward. It's all getting so real now.

Thamu glad you are feeling better about things now. When do you see Dr Reddy?

Just to say i have managed to get another Appointment but with Dr Reddy. Ladies i was soo happy when i called there as i had seen good reviews from him and when i called he is the one who picked the phone and he was soo great and put me at ease. Their fee is way less than Dr Shanahan and their receiptionist was way nicer.

I am so emotional. I got to see my little boy's face. Even though he was moving too fast for us but i saw him, and he's beautiful . I'm having one of those moments where you just know that life is not random, there are no coincidences. I am so overwhelmed i could cry!

I'm not in the CT area so am unable to advise you regards Dr Shanahan, but go for your first appt with her and see how it goes.

Congrats! You say your edd in 15 June. Do you know if you are having a LB or LG?

Emotions are crazy during pregnancy due to hormones and believe you me, you are not the only one crying through everything. I'm crying as well, and now the temper tantrums (or whatever you want to call them) have started. BF got a display last night !!!!!! Blame it on the hormones hehe

I just found this site and this page today after spending 2 days trying to find a community and crying throughout the process. We just moved from Malawi to CT and had planned our pregnancy and due to work had to move. Only to realise that i cant use my MW medical aid and trying to find an affordable place. I think the worst happened the past 2 days where all the semi private and not for profit maternity clinics could not take me because i am a high risk. So i was left with the Mowbray Maternity public side where i was given a first appointment of 29th March but was told to arrive at 6am and i was on a queue with 30 other women. Reading reviews i just cried and then resolved that i have to look for the paying.Since we live on Main Road, Southern Surbubs near Kingsbury i thought it makes sense and will find ways of saving since my EDD is June 15. I have called and been given a first apporintement for Dr Shanahan for April 12. Is she a good Doctor, or there is another one i could try as i havent seen any other reviews on her except that she has a tough personality. Now that i have resolved on Kingsbury i feel better, but im still having tendencies to cry. My worry with Mowbray Public was that am a foreign woman and if you have problems that can be used against you.


My high risk comes from the fact that my second baby was through ceasor (after waters broke and no labour signs at all) i do hope i have a normal delivery this time around. Will Dr Shanahan encourage normal delivery.

Otherwise pregnanncy is progressing very well and my whole family is settling in wel in South Africa and Cape Town in particular and am glad i found this Moomie community today.
