Hello All,

Welcome Michelle. I feel for you. I used to suffer so much with hayfever before I moved to Dubai. Now I wish I could even manage to sneeze once at least. Air is so hot and humid here but I guess its good for my allergies.

Firefly, hope you enjoying the winter. I believe Boston gets loads of snow! When we spent a month in NY in December 2006, Boston was terribly snowed in whereas NY didn't even get a bit of snow. I was soooo disappointed. The last I saw snow was in Sep 2001. I definitely have the travel bug. Couldn't live without traveling around now. Both DH and myself get itchy feet to travel every few months and the advantage is that Dubai is so central, we can choose from so many destinations.

I unfortunately can't help you.... :( I was suffering with bad sinus at one stage and my gyne mentioned there is some cortezone nose spray, dunno if that will help, but call ur doc first....

Hi Michelle,

Welcome :) We have two other people (Adele and Chantal) with the same due date as you, I'm pretty close too, my due date is 12/13 June.

I can't give you any help with the hayfever because I've never really suffered with it myself, but I suggest that you set up a new thread on the pregnancy forum asking about what you can take for hayfever because you're more likely to find someone who has had your experience (as opposed to just checking with people in this group).

The only thing I can think of is perhaps to try a netti pot? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_irrigation) You can find them in dischem and I've used one to help with congestion. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be absolutely fine during pregnancy because you can use just plain water - although I would used water that has been boiled previously and cooled just to make sure the water is sterile.

Good Luck!

Hello everyone,

My name is Michele, I've been lurking for a while reading all your posts and wanted to join in and say hello and beg for any information you might be able to help me with!

I'm due around 14th June and around 17 weeks along, leaning towards a c-section and am 80% sure its a boy, but will know in the next few weeks. First time mum - excited and scared - I'm 36 years old. So far its been pretty easy, no morning sickness (yay) and its been ok.

Live in JHB so also keen to meet new mom friends in the Randburg (ish) area.

What I am having a nightmare with is HAYFEVER - help, help help!!! Its become so much worse the last few days and I am going nuts - its severe.... itchy everything, can't see through my eyes, nose blowing till it bleeds (you get the picture huh??!!)

I actually got to the point where I called my doctor now - then realised it was 5 30 on a friday afternoon - needless to say no answer! I don't think I can actually survive the weekend this way - dramatic but if you saw me you'd agree I'm sure!

Has anyone taken anything that's helped?? Is there anything in South Africa I might be able to buy that is safe for use with pregnancy or that anyone elses doctors have said they can use?

Any help/suggestions very very very welcome!!

Looking forward to chatting with you all

Michele

Stacy, wow, I can't believe you're 20 weeks already! When did dh start feeling your baba move? My dh is so jealous that I can feel the baby move and he can't, lol! I'm hoping that baby's movements start getting stronger soon. Good idea to start packing boxes now, if you keep ahead I'm sure it will make the move so much easier!

Adele, I'm glad that your scan went well and you had a good holiday :) Lol that your baby is being so uncooperative! Hopefully you'll be able to tell soon - lucky you have access to your sister for scans :) I know how irritating it is waiting to find out - I just wanted to start buying and preparing stuff!

Anni, I'm based in Cambridge, Massachusettes (which is almost like a suburb of Boston). I'm sure Manhattan would be costly. NJ is pretty close to NYC though and it has a large muslim population so you wouldn't have a problem finding halaal butchers etc (though I think you might find the USA a bit tough after Dubai, we have to watch just about EVERYTHING we eat here and what soaps/toiletries etc we use). The great thing about giving birth here though is that baby automatically gets US citizenship, which is pretty cool :) and which I hadn't realised when I fell pregnant.

Sounds like you're doing lots of travelling! You're inspiring me because dh and I originally wanted to travel as much as we could in our short year here but pretty much gave up on that when I fell pregnant and had such bad morning sickness. At least your morning sickness is gone though! :)

Hello all,

Hi Firefly. Thats great that you keeping in touch this way. I wish I was already in the US but with the pregnancy we have decided to move after baby is born. Whereabout are you located? We will probably make a trip to that side of the world in March or April if our green cards come in time and we would need to activate it within 6 months (long long story!). Talk about bad timing. We were thinking of one of the boroughs around Manhattan but its proving quite costly so I started doing research on areas in NJ instead. Can't wait to go shopping there. Its so much cheaper than Dubai.

The good news is that my morning (all day) sickness is soooo much better this week. Like a miracle, week 15 started on Tuesday and it started easing off then. It has been replaced by heartburn already. Ahh the joys of pregnancy. I suffered with heartburn throughout my previous pregnancy but would rather have that than MS. Gaviscon is already stocked up in my medicine cabinet.

I miss SA this time of year. Everyone is just posting pics of their holidays at the coast on FB and BB and I must admit that I am so jealous that I cannot be there.

We planning a trip to India on 25 Jan for my sister in laws daughter's wedding. Wish me luck... I'm not too keen on India especially now being pregnant and having to be extra vigilant on what I consume. I still don't know what I am going to wear with my bump.

But on a better note, we going to Kenya probably around the 13th of February. Can't wait for my daughter to see real animals. She loves lion king and it would be such a treat for her to see lions and elephants. DH has suggested that we do a week in SA after Kenya but I am not sure right now. Travel while pregnant and with a 2 year old will be challenging.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Morning Everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful festive season! Happy 2012!

We had a wonderful holiday down in the Western Cape, but did we drive a lot! It feels like I still have wheels under my feet.

I went for the neuchal fold scan early December and the doctor said he is very happy and did not send me for any subsequent blood tests. Went for another scan with my sister (actually twice), but we were not lucky enough to see the gender. The baby is a really busy one, and would not lay down, and both times the umbilical cord went right through the legs. Looks I'll have to wait this one out.

Welcome to the thread, Stephy and Anni. Always nice to see new faces.

Sischa, I am so glad it went well with the cerclage. How did your gynae appointment go.

2kidmamma: I am sure you will have a very healthy baby. My doc didn't even order bloods, and I am turning 36 in Jan. He also seems to think the scan is quite accurate.

Firefly; Congratulations with the boy!

StaceySmey, hope you had a wonderful time off! I haven't even think of any names yet. I was hoping to find out the gender first. I might have to change my strategy though ;)
