Oh and we haven't bought anything for this poor baby yet! Obviously we have a lot of the big stuff from my son, and my sister in law is giving us lots of hand me down girl clothes from my nieces which is lucky. Do need a new infant car seat though as gave our previous one away (I hated it).

Hi everyone :-)

Re breast pumps - my two cents, for what its worth (I did breastfeed my son until he was 3 and he never had a drop of formula):
A pump that works well for one woman does not necessarily work well for another - our breasts are all different shapes and sizes and respond differently - which makes it very difficult to buy a pump based on the recommendations of others. Which sucks because they are expensive items and once used non returnable. Expensive does not necessarily mean good though. I had a Medela Swing and HATED it - would often take me 45 min to an hour to get one bottle. The swing doesn't have very strong suction but has some unique rhythm that is supposed to make it still very effective - well it didn't work for me. But I have friends who have loved it. This time round i am going to try the Spectra pump - have heard good things and its much cheaper than the Medela. Apparently the suction is a lot stronger which I think is what I need. With another child needing me I def won't have time to sit and pump for so long, so hope it will be quicker. If you have a friend who is willing to let you try her pump before you go out and buy one then thats a bonus - I know you aren't supposed to share pumps but hey I never had a problem. I also don't think you need to buy a pump now - maybe wait a few weeks to see if breastfeeding is working out for you before spending the money. I had a cheap manual one which I used while on maternity leave for the odd quick bottle. Other people swear by hand expressing which can be very effective once you get the hang of it (apparently).

If you really want to breastfeed then consider joining the La Leche League South Africa facebook page now so that you can ask questions and learn a little from other peoples posts before your baby comes.

Sorry for the long post but I feel very passionately about breastfeeding.

@Jaybee - enjoy the cruise, it sounds so nice. I seriously could do with a holiday now.

@CDLK - Enjoy your scan. Let us know how it goes.

Is anyone here going to get a bottle warmer seeing that our babies will be winter babies? That is another reason why I would prefer to breastfeed as the temperature is just right.

@ Ninies & Maj, thank you for the constipation tips! My tummy is 100% better and I think it was also from the holiday overindulgence of all the wrong foods :)

@ Maj, I also have not bought many things at all in fact I have only bought a pack of nappies and received a few items as pressies. At the end of the month I am going to buy a few things that I am sure I won't receive at the bay shower. You are so right the stores have summer clothes and I am waiting for some winter things. Thank you, I also really hope that I can have natural.

@ CDLK, good luck with the scan and let us know how it goes. Miecke is such a beautiful name.

@ Licious, I had to smile as I do it as well, take the ruler and measure out baby's length on my belly. Oh so precious.

My husband and I are going on the MSC Cruise to Nowhere tomorrow for the weekend and I have read that been pregnancy can make you very sea sick :sick: . On the previous cruise I didn't get sick but my sister bought me two Sea-bands for motion sickness just in case I get nauseous and I am armed with snacks. So hold thumbs all will be fine

@LisaMcK and @JayBee, glad the scans went well.

I was beginning to think I was waaay behind on getting stuff for the baby. I guess the stores are only getting warmer stock now anyway.
@LisaMcK, someone told me you can get the breastpump through the dischem via your MSA today. Am not sure about the baby monitor. But maybe call dischem and ask, or go into the store before deciding.

@Jay-Bee hopefully your body has healed and you can still have the natural.

@CDLK enjoy the scan tomorrow
