Beansmom I'm so proud of Tayla I can just imagine how you must be beaming. I think it's because Emily also wasn't crawling, so i feel an affiliation. I've never heard of walking causing a fever. But maybe she got so excited she got really hot (walking's hard work)

Jacadebra, the toy idea is good but doesn't work. Lady Jane just rolls wherever she wants to go.

Bundle of Joy, Emily also gets bites quite often. I bought an anti-mozzie cream from Dischem that we put on her face at night and it seems to help.

How are the other little trailblazers doing? Pinky, any more words? Any more walkers?

Bronz and Des, you've both been quiet. How're you all settling into your new homes?

Hello moomies!

So for those that didn't already see my big news on Facebook... My little munchkin took her first 4 steps on her own this week! The excitement and joy on her face was priceless. You You and Tayla had been practising all afternoon just to show mommy the perfected performance as soon as I got home Too Cute!!!

And after all that excitement - the very next day she had a fever! No idea what from as I can't see any teeth yet! But her temp was 38degrees yesterday... so we just monitored and gave Panado in case she was in pain in anyway... It eventually started to come down at 3am... today it is 37 which is still a little high for her but at least it is moving down! You You is convinced that the new milestone has caused the fever... have any of you heard of that?!

Gosh saying words ALREADY??? James says mama, dada and baba, but not to a specific person - you guys are breeding geniuses:)
James didnt have any reaction to the measles jab - not even a red mark. Infact he didnt even cry or get a fever. It was as if he never got an injection. Cant say I'm complaining...

I'm not doing the chicken pox or MMR vaccines. They are optional in SA and honestly for benign diseases that very rarely cause complications I'll forgo the chemicals in the vaccines

The risks of severe complications from chickenpox is 1 in 10 000 if you get it under the age of 10. For older children it can be more serious, but heres the thing - the vaccine efficacy wears off in about 9 years, so instead you are delaying an illnesses to a time when there can be more side effects - never mind the side effects of the injection to start with (1 in 1000 for febrile convulsions and nervous system toxicity)
The worst is your child can still get chicken pox (although mild, and because they are still "contageous" parents have to take them out of school anyway...
Plus with increased vaccination there seems to be increased incidence of shingles...
So I'm going to make sure James gets chicken pox and gets immunity the old fashioned way:)

If James was a girl I would get the MMR before high school for the rubella portion:)

So I took Luke for the chickenpox vaccine, he didn't even cry!! He is 10kgs, right on the normal curve. So hoping he won't get the pox!

Karla, Luke didn't have any reaction to the measles vaccine. He did get red spots a week after that I thought could be the vaccine but I think it was just insect bites as he gets it often now.

Pinky - I'm jealous that Karla says mama!
Lia has 10 or so words and NONE of them is MAMA!!! My son had about 30 words before he said Mama. What's up with that!!! lol

Karla sounds like a cutie!

Lia only did her 6 week checkup at the paed. I will only take her to the paed if she is ill. I think it's a personal thing... with my son I was nervous and stressed and always worrying, so he went to every paed appt, until I decided just before the 1 year one that the paed sucked and it was a waste of money. With Lia I actually have a fabulous Paed but he'll only get to see us if Lia or Jordan actually get sick.

Scribbling... Emily may not be crawling etc yet but she did a somewhat contortionist looking one arm, reverse push-up move when she was about to fall over but refused to relinquish whatever she was holding! I was staring at her wondering how the heck she managed to do that maneuvre without spraining something/ falling over!!
I meant to mention - seeing Emily went on all fours so easily racing for the shoes.. have you tried putting toys etc all around her but just out of her reach when you sit her down, instead of right by her - that way she will have to go on all fours to fetch the toys. Don't know if it will encourage crawling but it may just. I remember with Jordan I was so worried in the beginning that he might fall over when he started sitting, that I used to habitually move stuff close so he wouldnt reach far, even when he was older. He never went on all fours. With Lia, she would sit on the floor and I'd put toys by her but she would want to go and get the toys Jordan has so she would move onto all fours to try and reach things.
I still think Emily will either crawl for only a week or two or go straight to walking.

So - Tayla's blessing all done! And she was such an angel! Even stayed awake for everyone an hour passed her nap time and was happy! We did have a few incidents like her 4 yr old cousin letting our cats outside ( they are inside cats because our neighbours dog kills cats for fun! ) and opening up the door to Tayla's room and going in for who knows what reason while she was sleeping... so I had my little fit and annoyed a few people... but didn't really care. My house, my rulz!

Apart from that... Tayla has discovered she has a head above her eyes just this weekend... so her little arms stretch up to her head and she grabs on and starts laughing... too cute!

@Scribblingal.. never fear! Tayla doesn't say much either. BA is probably the closest to a word... And pointing - i've been showing her eyes, nose, ears etc for a while... but she doesn't know them yet... she is however fascinated with the fact that mommy has a hole in the side of her head that she can stick her finger into... Lovely! Oh and also that mommy has a whole in the middle of her tummy (she can't see her own belly button cos of her big tummy)...

As for the paed visits... we only did the 6 week one because we thought it was very important... but even that I thought was a waste of R515.00! We were lectured for 45min about all the vitamins and supplements we should start giving Tayla immediately... which I don't feel is necessary! The only valuable information I got from that visit was that there is now a vacc for ovarian cancer that girls can get... currently very expensive - but you've got a good few years to get the shot... so will definately keep that in mind for Tayla... So since then if we have any issues we just go the local GP who used to be a obstritrician (sp) and is great with kids! Obviously if he says its best to go to a paed we will - but they are really crazy priced!

Well - that is me for now... off to relax while Tayla sleeps!

Pinky, I took Emily to the paed at 6 months and I felt like it was such a waste of time and money - he didn't even weigh her!!! I'm not going to take her at a year. Would honestly rather take her to the baby clinic. If i'm worried about anything I'll take her.

Sounds like the babas are developing so fast. I love hearing about all the quirks. Pinky, it's amazing that she's saying all those words. Emilys saying nothing except for waaaaaah. When I met up with Jacaderba, Lia was even pointing to her eyes, nose, mouth etc. You guys have clever kids!

Pinky, the measles one was fine. She came out in a bit of a rash about 10 days after, but I'm not sure if it was jab-related. The other one stung though.

Bundle, how is luke? They usually get the chicken pox one at a year.
