all this bottle talk! Dont even know where to start. Want to breastfeed adn hope I can for ages - best for baby and weight lose for me! SO if all goes well and I manage to BF how many bottles will I need? Ooh really beginning to feel a little overwelmed. There is so much to learn! At least I have Mommie!!

Hi again Shame, my dad was helping my sister with a project, building a stand for her ragdoll she had to make for tomorrow. And then he cut his hand with that thing you cut wood with! I was in bath (as usual) and just heard my mom yelling. So she took him to emergency.. havent heard anything And now my sister is wondering how she is going to finish her project!! aiii..

And also the news of SexyHexy is sooooo sad She was just a few days ahead of me! I cant even imagine what she must be going through.. sooo sad...

Meags, sorry bout the car! Dont feel disorganised.. I also havent bought anything. First want to know the gender and then do some planning. They have AMAZING stuff in the US!! So really only buy stuff that you know you will only be able to find here. Especially the bedding over there is soooooo nice!! I wanted to import some for my son but the shipping just made it crazily expensive!

Lucy, about the bottles.. I wanted to use the pretty blue BPA free NUK ones but my son wanted nothing to do with it! So I had to use the ones I got along with my pigeon breastpump and he sucked like a champ. So for him Im using pigeon, they work well but really are not pretty like some of the others, also they dont have much in the BPA free line. So for this next one Im going to wait. Will be breastfeeding as long as I can and will then go buy if I want to, but I have the pigeons for emergency. Oh and he's on Nuk dummy.. loves that

I also used cottonballs dipped in lukewarm water to clean my baby's bum for a loooong time. Its so freaking cold in winter with those wipes.. and you save mega moolah on not buying wipes for cleaning newborn poo 10times a day

Meags, my son's cord only came off at 6wks!!! I was going crazy but the clinic sister kept telling me that she has seen it before. She eventually at 4wks cut it down so it was just a little black bit that only fell off 2wks later!! This time around Im hoping for 7 days

Emsmom, ahh your parties sound devine!!! I also loove entertaining!! The fairy party is going to be such a hit! I found the coolest site the other day with exactly that kinda theme.. they went totally overboard but it looked ammmmaaazzzinnngggg.. will try find it again and you can get some ideas.

Joli, apparently they can fuss over the teat more than the bottle. some teats are easier to suck (wider hole), others are softer teats, others are longer and makes them gag...sigh...babies!!!

my birthday is on Sunday. really doesnt feel like it I dont think I'm getting anything!!! DH keeps asking what I want and my response is "for you to be interested in the baby".
So ya...dont think it'll be a very exciting birthday apart from the fact that I'll be 13 weeks!

Well I never bothered with trying different bottles and different dummies. I just never gave Kayla a dummy and tried one dummy with Megan which she didn't want to take. I only gave her a dummy cause she was sucking her fingers. Both my girls struggled with taking the bottle once they were used to boobies, but I don't think it's got anything to do with the type of bottle. They just have to get use to the plastic. I bought all my bottles (NUK) before the time. This time I'm going for Tommy Tippee. I seriously can't see how a baby can prefer one thing over another if they don't know the difference . But that's just me. I also never used cotton wool for the bum. I used wetwipes from day one. Hmmmm I actually didn't know why I needed the cotton wool until I read on PF, but then Megan was already like 6 motnhs old and I still got cotton wool in my house!

Driekie - glad you scan went well as well. I'm using plain bio oil for my skin. So I first put normal body lotion on (Camphor) and then I put bio oil over that. Try that for the itchiness.

Emsmom - I know what you mean. I also feel guilty. Especially as this baby wasn't planned and it's so sad when I sometimes think that I'm not ready for this baby and then something like this happens. Each pregnancy really is a miracle. Your parties sounds really awesome!! I used to be an events co-ordinator. It's lots of hard work, but so rewarding. I'm just not up to parties when I'm preggars, so I don't think we will be doing a new year's party this year.

Evening Ladies

I am on cloud nine!!! Was so amazing seen our little chipolata on "da big screen"! Baby measures 19mm and is 8 weeks 5 days (my calculations were spot on!) All seems in perfect order with heart pounding away!!

I am just so relieved now...now to reach the 12 week mark!

I mentioned to the doc that I had fractured (hairline cracks) my pelvis in an accident when i was in my early twentys. He said that will only be able to tell if it will present any problems much later on. Hope I can have a natrual birth.

Will try post pics of my scan soon - just a mission as the scanner is in a cupboard and not sur ehow to do it...will beg DH to help out later!

Lucy, I think choose one brand you like (Nuk, Avent, Pigeon whatever) and really, just buy 2 bottles. (if you really want to buy the starter kit, do so and then give away if baby doesnt agree!!)

Are you planning to breast feed at all or just bottle feed?
If you are only going to bottle feed, then you will need to buy more than 2 bottles as otherwise you'll spend your days cleaning and sterilising! It's just a risk you gotta take!

If you are going to breastfeed a bit, you can see if baby takes the bottle at all. (they recommend not introducing a bottle before 6 weeks otherwise they go off the breast as sucking a bottle is easier). At least this way you can just buy 1 at a time and test the waters!

Some babies are really not fussy at all and will take any sort of bottle.

I know a lot of mom's struggle most with dummies - buying one of every brand and baby just refuses to take any of them!

EmsMom, wish you were here to plan my parties!! I am so lazy. wasnt even going to have a party this year and now I decided we have to do something - so we are going for a dinner. how unexciting!!! And what really annoys me is I told DH to invite the friends of his that I am friends with and he has invited 11 people!!!!!! 5 of which I had agreed he could invite. now he's saying he had to invite this one because they live with that one. and then they also go out alot with those 2 people so he had to invite them too. I am annoyed because i know now he will spend his time with them and ignore me
