Newborn and baby advice

I would like to know how you guys sterilise your bottles... I have not started to use them but would like to, just want to make sure that I sterilise them properly...

Kellan is sleeping so well at night - WELL DONE!! How old is he now?

I also have a swing, but so far, Connor isn't loving it much - I've put him in it three times now and he just gets irratable after a few minutes, thankfully, it was a gift and I didn't pay any money for it! Will try it again when he's a bit older. I agree though that we all must finf ways to keep our lo's occupied so that we can focus on other things for a while - so good for you! Connor has a grumpyish period in the afternoon, after his 3pm feed, so from about 4pm until his 7pm feed he's a bit niggly, struggles to sleep, and its very tiring trying to keep him happy - I'm hoping he outgrows this one!

I havent posted for a while but been reading your posts everyday. Im so glad to hear everyones little ones are doing so well.
Kellan is fine, we went on friday for his injections at a goverment clinic, what an ordeal!! My mom who is phobic about germs came with me and had me in such a state by the time we left as the clinic could have been cleaner and she had me convinced he caught some awful disease from there and made me feel like such a bad mother for trying to save money by taking there. Anyway he had a good examination by the sister and had all his vaccinations, with no side effects and 3 days on he is not sick, so I worried for nothing. Next time Im taking him up to Pietermaritzburg where you can get the state vaccines at the pharmacy clinics, its just here in Durban that the municipality wont give them to storks nest, dischem ect so they only stock the private ones.
Kellan is still drinking about 70mls every 3hrs, but has started sleeping from about 7pm to 1am at night, has a bottle, then sleeps again till around 6:30am. Its brilliant!!! I dont know what do with myself in the evenings now BUT he is such a terrible sleeper during the day, he moans and fusses all day, sleeping for a few minutes at a time in my arms thats all. In desperation I went and bought one of those fisher price aquarium swings today. I put him in it at the shops and he fell straight to sleep!!! He has been asleep in it for the past hour and a half. Im probably setting myself up for problems later but I need a break during the day to make supper, do a few chores and see to my daughter. So thats all my news for now, chat to you all soon.

Hi girls - sjoe, feels like I haven't posted in a while! You all sound well, which is good to hear!

My hubby left for CPT this morning, he will be there for 2 weeks -boo hoo, I'm going to be on my own and missing him so much - I never realised just how much I'd be missing him!

Connor is still doing well, he's also in more or less of a routine with small time changes during the day depending on how good or bad his night sleeps are - so far they have been mostly on the good side!

@Nicky - I'm sure you are now counting the days until you go back to work, me too - I can't believe that come 1 July, I will be dropping Connor off at creche for the very first time - its going to be so weird!!

@Beansmom - wow!! I wish I could manage to bake in the afternoons, he he

Well done to all the ladies who are doing so well with the expressing - I struggled when I was still expressing and it took me aaaaaages to get a full feed expressed, so good for you!!

Connor has given me a few smiles this past week, its too cute - they aren't very regular yet but I'm very grateful for the smiles I do get!!

Ok, I'm off to attend to my little man, his day sleeps have been a little short this week so he's awake a lot!

Hi ladies

What a day... Karla is doing okay... slept a little bit better today... Tonight she really struggled to fall asleep... I think she might have a little bit of acid-reflux... will see if we can go to paed tomorrow and not only Wednesday... we need to go for her 6 week check-up, but might as well go earlier and ask him about it... Do any of you know what to do or give her for that? She wants to be upright the whole time...

I expressed about half an hour ago for 15 minutes and got 90 ml out... I hope it will continue like this... 2 times of expressing and I have a bottle for Karla... I am freezing it for now... will give to her after we have gone to the paed...

I am using the medela electric breastpump and initially it was taking me around 15 minutes to get 30 - 50 ml out in the mornings and evenings after Tayla's feed - i'd only get about 10ml out in that time... now i'm down to expressing only once a day which is great... the 9pm feed hubby feeds Tayla with the bottle - and I express 110ml in one go.. each night it gets a little more. Takes the same amount of time as it takes Tayla to finish the bottle.

I'm stil on newborn nappies for little Tayla - but I've got the same prob with Pampers... and not only poops up the back - but this morning she was lying on the bed on her side and as i lifted her i noticed a nice big puddle on the bed and her babygrow was soaked... so the wee wee escaped too!!! i HATE pampers!!!

Tayla is also in a good routine... at 1 month she wakes up every 4 hours... some nights she is good to her parents and does a 5 hour run... and generally it takes around 30 minutes to get her down after feeding and nappy change... (unless she is having a bad day!) I'm extremely greatful for the routine - at least I can plan my day around it... and know that I can drop her by granny and do any errands in a 2 hour gap! It also allows me a shower every morning and baking some afternoons!!! Just makes me feel like i'm getting my life back

Scribbling, an "outtie" belly button is not uncommon in babies. It is an umbilical hernia and is completely normal.

PLEASE do not strap the tummy! It will not flatten the belly button.

Surgeons will tell you to wait until 3 years - 5 years in order to see if it rectifies itself.

Generally it will sort itself out so there is absolutely nothing to worry about
