Newborn and baby advice

Pinky - I can't remember after each feed how long it took me to espress but 11minutes sounds right. When I espressed a full bottle it took about 40minutes, got 160ml the first time, then the next night 100ml... it took forever, its easier feeding him off the boob!

I stopped espressing as it wasn't working so well in the end only managed 40mls, I am thinking my periods may have had something to do with it so I decided I would wait for this week and start espressing again. But this time I am going to do it in the morning as I was doing it at 7pm and apparently your milk supply is the lowest in the eve so maybe thats why I couldn't get much out.

Hoping it goes well, have to start espressing little bits after each feed now to make up a full bottle again..boowooo!

ScribblingAl - Gotta hate those poos!! Luke's belly button is not protruding at all, it an "innie".

Nicky - that is a great routine, very similar to ours, just that Luke feeds at about 10pm and wakes up around 4am and then at 7am and his cycle of every 3hours starts from then on.

I'm glad we're not on the Pampers site any more because I'm about to curse them. The poo up the back thing keeps happening to me too! I have about three bags of the damn number twos left though!

Pinky, I express until I have enough (of expressing, not enough milk). Usually about 10 mins a side and I don't ever get 60ml. Sometimes only 30ml.

Jacadebra, I only saw your PM because you told me about it. Cut's still a bit sore (well, just above the cut) but it's feeling a lot better. I also have a little girl who loves being carried around and screams when she's put down. Doesn't do that with Dad though, so I think she's found a sucker.

When you ladies say you give your babies tea, what tea are we talking? That rooibos for babies?

NickyW, 50km's damn far in the traffic. Do you use the highways? Maybe once all the roadworks are done it will be superquick.

Tell me something. What do your little ones' belly buttons look like? Emily's is protruding so much it looks like she has a second nose.

@BOJ How long did you express when you started expressing your breast milk? I expressed this morning for the first time and it was about 11 minutes and I got 60 ml of milk out...

Mommy21 - if you want to upload the video you can - I will tell you if either of my babies behaved that way. They do have some seriously jerky weird movements and even breathing patterns when they are so little. Let us know when you go for the second opinion - I hope everything is a-ok!

Wow Nicky - that is so great she's already fallen into a routine! If I remember correctly we only fell into one with my son around 3ish months and even then it was just with the feeds, the sleeping was unpredictable between.
So great when you know what to expect when, makes planning life a lot easier lol. Liebe is growing nicely, yay, amazing how much quickly they grow!!

Glad the size 3's are working better Bundle, I found the same. I think I'll switch back to huggies after this pack and see how it goes. Carrying a baby around is friggen tiring. My son would ONLY sleep in my arms for naps or not sleep at all.. so at 3 months old I had to kind of teach him to sleep in his bed... it was hectic. He would then only sleep 30 min's a time instead of the 1.5 - 2 hours he'd sleep in my arms. Lia also only sleeps tiny short spurts then wakes up tired but I can't carry her around the whole time (my toddler freaks and makes too much noise) so I have to keep rocking... putting down.. she wakes up cranky after a few minutes.. repeat. Ugh.

Pinky all the paed's are friggen expensive.. scary really. I suppose that is the trend for any "specialist" in the medical field. Our Paed is Dr Ahmed at life Fourways, he is lovely.

ScribblingAl - how is your cut feeling? I think you probably haven't been resting as much as you should have been but it is nearly impossible when you have a needy baby on your hands. Glad she is a lot calmer since they the chiro though, that's awesome. Did you get my reply PM - this PM system is weird, it doesn't let you know when you have a message.. urgh. Frustrating.

Lia ended up getting a fever the night after the vaccines.. luckily I just gave calpol once then she was ok. She was a bit niggly for 24 hours too. Otherwise she is doign great.. was drinking 2 hourly the whole of yesterday and last night *yawn* not sure why.. but seems to be back at 3 hourly *holds thumbs*

Nicky, the triplets I was looking after are 4 months old and were 7 weeks prem.

They were feeding on demand (formula) and would drink sometimes every 2 hours, but sometimes they would only have 20ml.

They were not happy to wait 4 hours and 3 screaming babies is unbearable.

However, the 1 baby is not gaining weight at all. She weighed 3.6kg 3 weeks ago and now weighs 3.7kg.

The paed told the mom it is best to give water/tea and the babies must wait 4 hours so that they drink 120ml every 4 hours, none of this demand feeding.

So if the tea is working for you, so be it.
especially since she is drinking so well otherwise

BOJ , Liebe drinks every 3.5h to 4h , I bath her round about 8pm so she will have a double feed in the evening , she'll drink between 5 and 6 and then will drink after her bath and fall asleep round about 8:30 and sleep until about 02:30 and then sleep till we wake up in the morning between 5 and 6.I think what helped the most was introducing tea , she sometimes get thirsty and ill give her a few sips , they say that you mustn't introduce water or tea before 6 months but Liebe gets thirsty and since i have done it she also drinks her full 100ml S26 at every feed which she didn't do before.It works for me.

I'm on Yazz (the new version of Yazmin) as I get migrane and Dr suggested that.

Glad you had a great weekend , I enjoy it now when we go to people and everyone wants to hold Liebe , cause then I can just relax a bit.

Yip I only took 3 months maternity leave ,I don't know how i am going to work when she is at the creche , I've already started to cry.What is worse is that I work in JHB and stay 50km from where I work so I'll have to sit in traffic everyday before I can see her.

So Robertson was lovely, Luke slept the whole way there and back...he seems to love to sleep in the car like I think all babies do.

The family all wanted to hold Luke whenever he was awake so I pretty much relaxed the whole time

Think he got so much stimulation there that when we got home he slept the whole night practically. And today he is sleeping well again, I'm thinking he may have gone through a growth spurt last week and that would be the reason for his fussing then.

I have moved onto the No.3 nappies now as atleast they sit higher up the back than the No.2's to avoid the poo creaping out of the back of the nappy.

Beansmom - we paid just under R500 for our 6 week checkup, the paeds are expensive!

Mommy21 - so pleased to hear that all is fine with your LG and she is growing nicely, what is her name?

Nicky - Yay for the routine what is Liebe's routine now? ahh no you seem to be going back to work after 3 months, I don't know how I am going to cope and I'm off for 6 months! Suppose we all deal with it, its harder for us as mothers than it is for our children. Sorry to here about the damn periods, its such a nuisance..I've just stopped myne and will see when it comes back, what pill are you on?
