file What will you never allow your child to....

Yes some do. I know a kid who is about 21 now. He is gay and kept a diary as he had no support form his very religious mother and she found it and destroyed it. It was the one place where he could be truthful about who we is and she took it from him. So sad. I realised how important your kids diary is. Writing is so very important. Important for growth and healing.

Deja I like your mommy rules. I will never read my childs diary. Remind me of this comment in 15 years from now.

My rules apply more to myself than to my child. I want to be there for my child ALL THE TIME. I never want to judge her, make her feel like less of a person, maker her feel unloved. I want her to be open with me, talk to me about anything and know she can count on me no matter what.

I want her to be independent and confident. Able to stand up for herself. Be happy.

I will always try and give her reasons for my decisions and inform/share/educate her with regards to my concerns.

I do feel the internet is a real threat. There will be parental control on our internet. My child will be limited to what sites she uses and I will look at what she does. (I know a lot of you won't agree with me on this one, but I am a journalist. I have done several stories about girls running off with peadophiles/strange men. Went and lived on mines in terrible conditions and some of these girls have never been found.)
I WILL check the sites she visits on her phone. I WILL try and be her "friend" on Facebook/Mxit if it means I can know what she is up to. I am not saying I will read her diary or invade her privacy but when it comes to technology, there are just too many predators out there for me to be ignorant.

Otherwise I am quite laid-back. I suppose we will make up the rules as we go along.

I had a lot of crap in my younger years when it came to men so be darned I WILL be protective over my girls, but on the other hand in my teenage years mum and dad gave me space to breathe, sometimes almost too much space. I don't know if it was a lack of presence of my parents or what, but call me the beady eyed mum.

Don't mind the girls sleeping out as long as I know them and a mum is present.

No tv in the rooms definately.

I'm with Julz about being scared of child molesting - but I will teach my girls to be able to talk to me about anything and everything, thats important.

One other rule in our household is OBEY. The bible teaches it and it will be done.

i am starting to stress in a way as we havent really talked about rules and i cant say what will and wont be done.... i really dont know what i want the rules to be...

But as growing up my parents were very strict and children didnt have a say in the house and because i was the youngest of 4 everything was always pointed on me , i was the black sheep... so its wierd to think about rules..

Marijke my mom did that to us thinking it would protect us when all it did was suffocate us and we did rebell in the end. She meant well.
