Hi Ronel

My ceasers are mostly also booked for 38 weeks but my doctor only gets theatre time on a monday for scheduled C-sections so the monday closest to 38 weeks is the 4th of June which puts me at 39 weeks but that is what I was hoping for. He would't be willing to do the ceaser before 38 weeks unless it was medically necessary which I am happy about.

I love stellenbosch MC, it is the best in my opinion. They are very very Mom& Baby Friendly and allow you to pretty much do what you want. You can have visitors all day if you wanted to and they wouldn't be unhappy about it. They always check with you though if it's ok first. I love the staff, they are very relaxed and friendly and the General Maternity ward is set up so nicely that it truly feels as if you are in a private room. There is no room sharing really because each "Room" is divided with a thick curtain, each bed has it's own TV and Aircon and so there is no worrying about anybody else. So I have had two prior births there and I wouldn't contemplate going anywhere else. You should take the hospital tour sometime. You just go there and ask if they can show you around. It's very nice. Stellenbosch MC is a very Ceaser Friendly hospital so they never make you feel like you did something wrong like you get at some hospitals.

They also have a Registered Breastfeeding consultant available there daily which is great. I can't remember her name now but will try find out.
My Doctor is Dr John Fassler.

@2kidmamma - my c-sec is done at 38 weeks because I have hipertension (high blood pressure). What is your gynea's name? Mine is Dr Lizette White. She is new at Stellenbosch. She came from Durbanville MC, where I had my LG but we now have decided to stay with her. How is Stellenbosch MC? The decision was very difficult for me as I know what level of services we received at Durbanville MC and I am hoping it will be the same at Stellenbosch MC.

@ Ronel, if you have your baby on 4 June chances are we will be in the maternity unit at the same time. Mine is also booked for 4 June so hoping baba stays put because my date will then be 39 weeks and both my others came earlier.

Hi Ladies

Thanks, yes the 4D video came out quite nicely, we got one or two others two but I only loaded the nicest one. @ Firefly, yes I also thought the baby smiled but thought it was just my imagination.

My Doula has 14 years experience and is internationally qualified. She is one of the very first Doula's in SA. She started the organisation WOMBS. The experienced Doula's like her may only charge R2500 which is the full fee, no hidden charges and then she is at your beck and call 24/7 before and after the birth. If a Doula also has a Midwifery licence then they may charge R3000. This only applied to registered Doula's though. You will get people that call themselves Doula's and charge their own rates but then they have no organisational backing whatsover and no formal qualification. So it seems to be very expensive in the US. What qualifications do those Doula's have?

@ Champers. I would definately find out from your GP how many babies she has delivered and also how many C-secs she has performed if she would be doing that if it became necessary and if she isn't the one to perform it which Surgeon would? But all GP's have to have delivered babies to become doctors in the first place so I don't think your baby would be the first one.

Hi Ladies

Sorry for being MIA. Things have been really hectic at work.

Went to the gynea on monday. Baba is growing very nicely and very active. I am almost 26 weeks and I am sooooo unfomcortable, it is not even funny. I don't remember this from my first pregnancy. Anyway, if all goes well c-sec is scheduled for 4 June.

2kidmamma - what hospital are you going to? I will be going to Stellenbosch MC.

My mom is currently visiting us for a month. It is so nice because she just take care of my LG and dinner and and and......

Enjoy your day!

Hi Ladies

I'm feeling really good at the moment :) Last week was really hectic, on top of normal classes and work we went to a "meet the midwives" evening and I found an infant and child CPR course that I thought might be useful so DH and I went to that too. I have finally made the switch from the doctors to the midwives, my first midwife appointment is next week, I'm looking forward to it :)

Michelle - those pics are adorable. Your baby looks like she has the cutest cheeks!

Champers - I'm glad you've found someone. I have read of GPs delivering babies here in the US. I think you'd maybe want to find out how much experience this particular GP has when it comes to delivering babies? If she's experienced then I'm sure it will be fine. I do recall that all med students deliver babies as part of their studies (I remember my friends in med school talking about it) so it is part of their general training.

Adele - it's funny baby has taken to your bladder, I'm sure it must be uncomfortable. Thankfully my baby is on the other side. I feel a bit lopsided though! Sounds like you're busy busy busy! I'm not familiar with either of those hospitals. Where are you based? In Jhb, Genesis looks awesome for natural births, but those hospitals you mentioned are in Pretoria?

2kmm - that video is awesome! Is it just me or is the baby smiling gently? I'm sure you must also be uncomfy with baby on your bladder! It's great that your doula is allowed to come into theatre. If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for your doula - is it more than R4000? Because that seems to be the going price here (around $500) so I'm still thinking about it.

Stacey - glad you're settling in, you must be so relieved it's all over :)
